In 2010, when I began my career in the fitness industry as a personal trainer in Atlanta, my boss at the time told me, “if you are going to succeed in this industry, you have to create a community that unites under your own personal training philosophy.” He also told me, “You can do it, but it’s going to take everything you’ve got.”
Fast-forward six years later; I live in New York City, where I have organically grown a one-on-one personal training network of over 25 active one-on-one clients, at Remorca Fitness, a boutique training studio that has two locations in the heart of the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
In addition to personal training, I have also extended my training brand into the digital fitness realm; serving as a lead running coach for a fitness app called Aaptiv, a digital audio recording application for treadmill and outdoor runs. In 2016, Aaptiv reached 1 million sign ups, making us one of the top audio fitness apps in the digital market. My workouts are used by thousands of members ranging from California to the UK.
I am a firm-believer in “functional fitness;” all-encompassing functionality of the body in relation to overall motion and endurance. To me, overall fitness is optimized when there is a consistent balance amongst metabolic strength, calisthenics, and strength training. My style of training never allows the body to acclimate to a specific type of conditioning and therefore, never allows the body to plateau. For my clients and for myself, this style of training has not only been effective in terms of fat loss, but it has also created a unique style of training that incentivizes people to make fitness a part of his or her daily lifestyle.
Starting out as a young entrepreneur in the fitness industry, my goal was like anyone else’s: to provide a service that is unique and solves each individual client’s fitness woes. However, my personal success, and client’s success can be attributed to something much larger than this. I have discovered that in providing my clients and fellow colleagues with constant inspiration, creativity, and continued education I have been able to become a go-to source of expertise for my network and industry.
To me, it’s important that we keep one another inspired. It’s important that we keep one another engaged and enchanted by the idea of becoming the absolute best version of ourselves. And if I can make you to achieve this, I have done my job.
